Story Pitches

1. Bill to require UMD sexual assault education every three years

We've all had to take various surveys throughout our college careers - most notably AlcoholEDU, an online course all freshman are required to take on alcohol use and its effect. There is no course, however, that educates students on one of the biggest issues facing college campuses today - sexual assault. A new bill has been proposed in the Maryland state legislature that would require universities to  conduct a sexual assault survey every three years that focuses on student sexual assault experiences and their knowledge on the issue. I would like to do a story on what the Maryland community thinks of all this by conducting various interviews with students, faculty, and university police.

2. The Student Athlete and Salary Debate

There has been much buzz recently around the issue of if the NCAA's policy against paying athletes should be changed. A change such as this would not only effect the athletes, but the students, staff and faculty as well. I would like to see what their take is on the whole issue - do they think student athlete salaries are a good or bad idea? I would conduct various interviews to get a better grasp on the issue and the university's opinion as a whole.
